🖥️ 10-inch touchscreen & standalone simulator
The integrated 10-inch colour LCD touchscreen (800 × 1280) is one of the features that sets the R50 apart from traditional launch monitors. Use it to review metrics, watch impact videos, run training sessions, view shot dispersion and play Home Tee Hero without a phone, tablet or gaming computer.
For a larger experience, connect the R50 to a compatible projector or display via HDMI (maximum output 1080p). The HDMI cable is sold separately.
📈 Ball & club data — 15+ metrics measured
The Approach R50 uses its three high-speed cameras to track more than 15 ball and club metrics for practice and simulation.
Ball data
- Ball Speed
- Launch Angle
- Launch Direction
- Spin Axis
- Spin Rate
- Apex Height
- Carry Distance
- Total Distance
- Deviation Distance
- Smash Factor
Club data
- Club Head Speed
- Club Face Angle
- Club Path Angle
- Angle of Attack
Club tracking stickers are required to record club data — Garmin includes 250 stickers (5 sheets of 50) with the R50.
🎥 High-speed impact video
Beyond shot data, the R50 records high-speed impact footage for a close-up of club-to-ball contact after each shot. It links what the numbers show to what actually happened at impact, helping you analyse strike quality, club delivery and consistency.
⛳ Home Tee Hero — 43,000+ golf courses
With an active Garmin Golf Membership, Home Tee Hero gives Approach R50 owners access to more than 43,000 virtual courses worldwide. Virtual rounds support up to four golfers and full play including putting. Garmin has continued to develop Home Tee Hero, with more realistic graphics and enhanced courses in its 2026 updates.
🔁 Home simulator indoors, launch monitor outdoors
The R50 isn’t limited to indoor golf. Its rechargeable lithium-ion battery lasts up to 4 hours, and the included carrying case makes it easy to take to the range. One device, two roles: a self-contained home simulator indoors and a portable launch monitor outdoors.
📐 Golf simulator room size & R50 placement
Per Garmin’s owner’s manual, place the launch monitor about 0.5 m (1.5 ft) to the side of the tee, facing the tee, at roughly the same height as the ball. To play left-handed, simply move the R50 to the opposite side. You’ll also want enough room for accurate tracking and an unrestricted swing:
| Ceiling height | approx. 2.74 m (9 ft) or more |
| Ball-to-screen (or net) distance | approx. 2.44 m (8 ft) or more |
| Room width — single-handed | approx. 3.05 m (10 ft) or more |
| Room width — fixed right- & left-handed bay | approx. 3.96 m (13 ft) so both can swing freely |
| Recommended hitting mat | at least 50 × 100 cm |
If you use a raised mat, raise the R50 accordingly so the ball and device sit at a similar height. Our Tee Line Hitting Mat (50 × 100 cm) is real-tee ready and a perfect match for the R50.
